Recent and fossilised animals from all over the world are kept in the Zoological Collection at the University of Rostock. Natural history collections are the archives of biodiversity on our planet. They form the basis of all basic taxonomic and systematic research as well as environmentally relevant research on a local and global level. Therefore, the holdings of the collections and the information associated with the material must be easily accessible worldwide. For this reason, all information on the objects is digitised and integrated into databases. For our zoological collection, we use the collection management system SeSam, which was developed by the Senckenberg Research Institute in Frankfurt and kindly made available to us.
